Community

Nordea supports the communities where we do business by providing time and expertise as well as financial support. We also participate in networks and organisations that work for responsible business behaviour and sustainable business practices.

Supporting new growth in the business community

  • In Denmark, Norway and Sweden, Nordea is active in "Young Enterprise", sponsoring and advising young entrepreneurs on how to develop businesses.
  • In Sweden Nordea is active in Jobs and Society (Nyföretagarcentrum). Some fifty branch managers give free advice to entrepreneurs and Nordea sponsors the organisation. Nordea is also represented on the Board of Directors.

Academic sponsorships

  • Nordea Danmark Fonden provides scholarships and sponsors other aspects of academia.
  • Nordea supports Baltic Sea Research at the University of Helsinki.
  • Nordea sponsors two professorships: the Hans Dalborg professorship in financial economics at the Institute of Financial Research in Stockholm and the Vesa Vainio professorship in comparative tax law at Helsinki University.

Charitable projects

Various charitable projects are being supported every year. Nordea’s sponsor activities also have a social dimension, e.g. by supporting sports and local community activities.

Networks and organisations

Nordea takes part in networks and organisations, and has signed international declarations, focusing on responsible business conduct and sustainable business practices, such as:

  • The United Nations Global Compact, a framework for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. As the world's largest, global corporate citizenship initiative, the Global Compact is first and foremost concerned with exhibiting and building the social legitimacy of business and markets.
  • The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), which is a global partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the private financial sector. It aims to develop and promote linkages between the environment, sustainability and financial performance.
  • The United Nations Principles for Responsible Investments (UNPRI), a set of principles aimed at ensuring responsible and sustainable asset management and investment funds activities.
  • The Equator Principles, a financial services industry benchmark for determining, assessing and managing social and environmental risk in project financing.
  • CSR Europe, a business-driven membership network working to help companies within the European Union integrate corporate social responsibility (CSR) into the way they do business.
