2011.06.29Nordea's effort in the area of Green IT has been recognised in a newly published book: 'Management Information Systems'. Nordea is used as an example of a company that has been able to reduce its environmental impact by using new technology.
Topics of particular interest have been how Nordea is shutting off computers at night, how different methods are used for cooling computer halls, and how video conferencing has been improved.
'Management Information Systems' is one of the first books new IT students get acquainted with, selling over 56.000 copies worldwide.

Green IT
In Nordea we are using computing resources in energy efficient ways so that both environmental benefits and financial gain are achieved. Green IT will minimise the environmental footprint of Nordea operations through effective technology solutions.
By increasing the usage of IT, environmental impact can be reduced. A good example is to establish virtual conferencing to reduce the number of business travels.
We are looking at more energy efficient ways by turning off resources that are not used, for example automatically shutting down computers at night. Nordea will also investigate how new energy efficient hardware can be purchased.
