The SRI process
In the process of identifying companies violating the international norms for corporate responsibility, Nordea cooperates with Ethix, who is an expert in this field with extensive experience.
Nordea’s investments are screened by Ethix twice a year to identify if they include companies that are subject to verified violations of the norms.
The process
Ethix performs in-depth analyses of corporate involvement in activities that violate international norms. The identification of such involvement is done by an automatic information retrieval system and through Ethix’ broad network.
Identification
Activities that are identified, are placed in one of the three following categories:
- Verified involvement in unaddressed violation.
- Well-founded allegations of involvement in unaddressed violation or controversy.
- Violation/controversy satisfactorily addressed.
Analysis
Ethix provides Nordea with individual company analyses and customised recommendations, which are then reviewed by Nordea's own SRI committee. The SRI committee decides on the level of engagement with companies that have verified involvement in unaddressed violation.
Action
The engagement and dialogue is then performed by the UK company Hermes on Nordea’s behalf.
If it proves impossible to change a company’s behaviour, Nordea will divest and exclude the company from its portfolio. We keep our customers informed of what we do and what we achieve through our regular customer reports.
