Nordea sponsors young people’s development
Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra formed to support young musicians
Nordea and Allmark, a company administering the Jean Sibelius trademark, have an extensive cooperation agreement on the training of young students of classical music.
As part of this initiative Nordea has set up Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra, which provides young people who have chosen music-playing as their serious hobby with the opportunity to practice and perform under the leadership of top professionals. The Association of Finnish Music Schools, among others, also participates in the cooperation.
Experts in the music sector selected the musicians for the orchestra on the basis of, for example, test performances.
Conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste has compiled the repertoire and conducted a festive concert of the orchestra.
- Young gifted musicians need opportunities to play in big orchestras. My first experiences of playing with a symphony orchestra were so meaningful to me that I decided to study to become a musician. I want to provide young musicians with the same kinds of feelings through the Nordea Jean Sibelius Orchestra. I am happy to be able to participate in this project, to support and make music with young people, says Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
