Nordea bank of the year 2009

The industry leading magazine The Banker, which is part of the Financial Times group, has awarded Nordea Bank Of the Year 2009 in Finland, Denmark and Norway.

The award as Bank Of the Year 2009 was presented to representatives from Nordea at a ceremony in London on Thursday 3 December 2009. Each year commercial banks from all over the World are competing to win the Bank Of the Year award in their respective countries.

The prestigious title is awarded to the bank proving the best growth and performance in terms of tier one capital, assets and return on equity in their respective country. The winning bank must also demonstrate how their banking structure and strategy will equip them for future developments in their market.

Finland

“Maintaining our ability to serve our customers throughout the financial crisis has been on top of our agenda during this difficult year. Looking back now I am proud to be able to say that we managed the challenge well. We stayed open for business every day and helped our customers to find solutions to their problems. Despite the negative impact of low interest rates on our net interest income and increased loan losses, we continue to deliver good results,” explains Carl-Johan Granvik, Country Senior Executive Nordea Bank Finland.

Denmark

“Nordea has proven its business model to be sound as evidenced by our recent quarterly results and our growing market share in Denmark. We have been able to support our customers throughout the crisis based on our strong funding position, our high-quality advice and competitive prices, and not least thanks to very strong teamwork among colleagues in all parts of the bank,” explains Peter Schütze, Country Senior Executive Nordea Bank Denmark.

Norway

“2008 and 2009 were among the most challenging years in recent Norwegian banking history. We have proved the sustainability of our business model by being able to steer through the rough waters with exceptional teamwork from our people in all parts of the bank, strong risk management, a wide range of products and services and close cooperation with our customers,” explains Gunn Wærsted, Country Senior Executive of Nordea Bank Norway.
