Nordea’s CSR Report for 2014 introduces new CSR focus areas which structures our sustainability work further. The focus areas are measurable and we will be reporting on their status going forward. This gives us a clear framework for the CSR work and helps us in being more transparent about our progress in the different sustainability areas.

An invitation to discuss a bank’s impact on society
In the 2014 CSR Report, we have specifically focused on trying to better understand our economic and social impact.  “We are very good at reporting our financial results, but describing the benefits and impacts a bank has in society has been much more challenging,” Liisa Jauri, Head of CSR at Nordea, says. The 2014 CSR Report is our first step in trying to describe what our impact is.

In the report, Liisa discusses how banks are the source and facilitators for individual personal customers as well as entrepreneurs, SMEs and large corporations. “We can calculate the direct financial benefit they receive, but when it comes to understanding the indirect impact to growth and job creation we generate through our customers, it becomes a whole lot more difficult. The work continues, and I must say, I can’t wait to continue on this road. I welcome any feedback and input that readers of this report may have.”

Separate fact book for analyst
In 2014, we conducted one-to-one dialogues with European analysts and based on the feedback we received we decided to publish a separate fact book with the underlying data behind our social, environmental, taxation and supplier data. We hope this improved transparency and comparability will help analyse the results of our work in these areas.
