Nordea’s Open Banking Developer Portal, first launched in early 2017, has won the Banking Technology Award for Top Digital Innovation. The winners were announced at a gala ceremony in London on 13 December.

The Banking Technology Awards recognises innovation and excellence within banks and financial institutions. The category for Top Digital Innovation was highly competitive, with nine global institutions shortlisted to receive the award.

A delegation from Nordea’s Open Banking team went to London to attend the awards ceremony, including Gunnar Berger, Nordea’s Head of Open Banking, Sanela Dulic, Strategic Business Developer, and Viktor Gregurek, Business Developer in Open Banking.

“We are clearly delighted to be recognised for our Open Banking initiative on the international stage. The efforts of the whole Nordea Open Banking team have been sensational since we embarked on this project and launched our Open Banking Developer Portal in the spring,” commented Gunnar Berger, Head of Open Banking at Nordea. “This award is vindication for that hard work and for our strategy to embrace PSD2 and Open Banking as an opportunity to deliver new products and services for our customers at a faster time to market. The recognition from Banking Technology also comes at an exciting time for the Open Banking initiative at Nordea, as earlier this week we became the first Nordic bank to offer selected pilots access to real customer data.”

Nordea’s Open Banking Developer Portal is a future-oriented platform that provides APIs to third party developers, customers and fintechs. The platform was built with both external and internal developers in mind in order to foster innovation within the organisation as well as through collaboration with third parties. Recently, the Open Banking team announced that the Portal will now connect its APIs to the production system, making Nordea the first Nordic bank to offer its pilots access to real customer data.

This award win validates one of the core goals of the Open Banking Portal: to become the go-to hub for banking APIs in the Nordics.
