Sasja Beslik, head of Sustainable Finance in Nordea Wealth Management, has been tapped Bank Profile of the Year 2016 by magazine Privata Affärer. The magazine awards him, among other things, for his willingness to take on uncomfortable discussions with companies and the media.
”Sasja Beslik has sharp points-of-view on listed companies and he is visible in the media. He gives the the impression to be concrete and hands on when he speaks about ethics and sustainability,” the jury said.
Having worked with integrating and developing environmental, social and governance aspects in the finance business since 2003 ”it feels great that the work gets attention,” Sasja Beslik said. He immediately adds that the award is for everyone within Nordea that works with and is passionate about sustainability. An increasing number of customers and other stakeholders are realising that the finance industry can play a crucial role in solving the climate issue, as investors and providers of funding. The finance business is probably the only true global citizen, capital can be transferred from one side of the planet to the other in seconds and capital isn’t restricted by national considerations, Sasja Beslik said.
“I strongly believe that we can make a difference for millions of people around the world by doing business in a responsible way. We can make a difference while we are making money. The more people who get how these two things are connected, the faster the change will occur,” he concluded.
The award isn’t Sasja Beslik’s first sustainability-related win. Nordea Asset Management has been tapped best ESG investment process in Europe the past two years by Capital Finance International. In 2013 Sasja Beslik was awarded the Royal Medal of the 8th size in the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim for his work on Swedish environmental and sustainability thinking.
The Bank Profile of the Year award winner is chosen by a jury appointed by magazine Privata Affärer.
The jury’s motivation:
He has a strong voice and about 300 fund billions in euro behind him. He conducts uncomfortable discussions with companies and the media. That may make a difference when many care more about appearing decent than about actually acting.
Sasja Beslik has sharp points-of-view on listed companies and he is visible in the media. He gives the impression to be concrete and hands on when he speaks about ethics and sustainability.
