Meet Bluewater, a company dedicated to delivering clean water
More than 800 million people in the world lack access to clean water. With a changing climate and a growing world population, the struggle to find clean water is increasing and impacting people and companies across the world. During recent years we have also seen growing concern about how plastic waste and micro plastics will impact access to clean water.
Nordea went to visit Bluewater, an innovative entrepreneurial company delivering drinking water solutions that will enable access to clean water for all people all over the world, while also diminishing the dependency on single-use water bottles. Bluewater was founded in 2013 and has since then developed rapidly into a global player.
Bengt Rittri, founder of Bluewater, believes the health of the planet depends upon imaginative thinking in order to halt the vast tide of plastic waste – only 9% of used plastic bottles on the planet are recycled.
“We want to harness human ingenuity to develop disruptive transformational thinking that will provide more people around the globe with on-demand clean drinking water in ways which help bring an end to the need for throwaway plastic bottles”, says Bengt Rittri.
Entrepreneurs often lead the way in combatting the planet´s future challenges. The start-up community has often led by example, using new technology to rethink business models that positively contribute to both profit margins and social impact.
“We see a growing trend of start-ups and fast-growing companies with fully sustainable business models and many that actually have sustainability as a key driver in their business model. There are also clear signs proving that by having sustainability strongly integrated into your business model you also have a strong foundation for generating strong financial results”, says Vesa Riihimäki, head of Start-up & Growth Finland
At Nordea, we work in close collaboration with the start-up eco system, now running dedicated Start-up and Growth units across all Nordic countries, serving 3000 innovative and scalable start-ups. In order to scale Nordic ideas we offer dedicated advisers, growth financing and access to a network of investors.
