Break in Nordea´s banking services on Sunday 22nd November 2020

Nordea will have a major service break on Sunday 22 November 2020 that will impact our customers’ banking services for the entire day. The break is due to essential modifications and maintenance in Nordea’s data systems that are necessary to ensure our customers will continue to have high-quality services available to them. 

As announced in August, Nordea will have two major service breaks this autumn. The latter is now confirmed to take place on Sunday 22 November. The service break will begin at 01.00 in the morning on Sunday 22 November. The break affecting cards is estimated to end around 21.00, and the break affecting other services at around midnight, meaning that our services will be unavailable for almost the entire Sunday. 


During the service break, cash cannot be withdrawn with Nordea’s cards, and Nordea’s access codes cannot be used for electronic identification. Netbank and mobile bank will be unavailable during the entire break. Card payments will be possible with certain restrictions at stores and unmanned service stations, for example, but the payment process may be slow and payments may not go through. The break will also affect payments in applications and services which have been linked to a payment card issued by Nordea. Similarly, the break will prevent the use of payment cards issued by Nordea in online stores.

“Unfortunately, not all modifications and maintenance can be done without some impact on our customers. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers and advise everyone to prepare for the break by doing all necessary purchases already on Saturday and by reserving cash for Sunday as necessary,” says Jani Eloranta, Head of Personal Banking Finland at Nordea.

Nordea’s Customer Service on the phone is open 9.00–17.00 on Sunday (service in Finnish), but during the break it will provide only general help. We will try to keep the service break as short as possible, and the services will be gradually made available to customers as the maintenance work progresses.

“We are communicating about the break to a wide audience in advance to make all our customers aware of it. During the break, you can find up-to-date information on its progress on our website nordea.fi, on our banking channels and on social media,” Jani Eloranta says.

The following services will be unavailable during the service break on Sunday 22 November 2020 between 01.00 and 21.00: 

  • Withdrawal and deposit of cash at ATMs 
  • Withdrawal of cash at stores 
  • Most card payments 
  • Apple Pay, Google Pay, Fitbit and Garmin payments 

The following services will be unavailable during the service break on Sunday 22 November 2020 between 01.00 and midnight: 

  • Bill payment ATMs 
  • Netbank (personal and corporate customers) 
  • Mobile bank (personal and corporate customers) 
  • Identifying yourself in Nordea’s services (code card, code calculator, code app) 
  • Identifying yourself in other services with Nordea’s access codes (e-identification: using public services with Nordea’s access codes, for example) 
  • E-payment 
  • Incoming and outgoing payments and payment services 
  • Nordea Wallet  
  • Nordea Investor 
  • Siirto, MobilePay 

The break will also impact the payment cards issued by Nordea Finance (Stockmann Mastercard, Finnair Plus Mastercard and TUOHI Mastercard) as well as its services, such as OmaLuotto, eCredit, Car Finance Details 24/7 and the Nordea Finance Portal.

The service break will also affect Nordea Customer Service (personal customers), tel. 0200 3000 (service in Finnish), and Nordea Business Centre (corporate customers), tel. 0200 2121 (service in Finnish). Nordea Customer Service and Nordea Business Centre are open on Sundays from 9.00 to 17.00 (service in Finnish), but during the service break you will not be able to handle any personal banking matters through them because you will not be able to identify yourself with your access codes.

The card blocking service will function normally during the break at 020 333. 

How should you prepare for the service break? 
You can prepare for the service break by doing your daily banking and any business requiring electronic identification in services provided by public authorities or other third parties before the break starts. If necessary, you can withdraw enough cash in advance. However, it is worth remembering that due to the coronavirus pandemic, some service providers currently accept card payments only. 

The service break will also affect Nordea’s cards and Netbank and mobile bank while travelling or abroad. If you are on a trip, we recommend you pay your hotel bill already on Saturday.
