At this year’s Paytech Awards ceremony in London, Nordea Wallet was awarded ‘Best Mobile Payments Initiative’, whilst there was further success for Open Banking, wining ‘IT Team of the Year’.

Supported by the publishing platform Fintech Futures, the PayTech Awards “recognise excellence and innovation in the use of IT in the finance and payment industry worldwide, and the people who make it happen.”

According to the judging panel, “for banks, financial and payment institutions, winning a PayTech Award proves the value of their technology investments and showcases their skills, commitment, creativity and execution. For individuals and teams, a PayTech Award is a prized acknowledgment of the demonstrated skills, leadership, vision, inspiration and dedication to the industry’s betterment.”

Double delight

On a very successful Friday afternoon on the River Thames in London, Nordea proved to be the day’s big winner by taking home two of the most sought-after awards on offer at the ceremony: ‘Best Mobile Payments Initiative’ and ‘IT Team of the Year’.

Celebrating the ‘Best Mobile Payments Initiative’ for Nordea Wallet, Teppo Jansson, Head of Mobile and Emerging Payments Solutions at Nordea, and Juha Risikko, Head of Mobile & Emerging Payments at Nordea, say: “We are thrilled that Nordea Wallet won in the competition where companies like Revolut, Ripple and Alipay where shortlisted. This also shows we are doing the right things when providing customers an easy way to follow their spending insights and pay easily.”

“Nordea Wallet is the perfect card companion which enables customers to turn mobile devices and smart watches into payment Instruments and help to stay on top of daily spending. It also means we will meet even tougher competition in the future and we need to find even better ways to provide great customer experiences.”

Team effort

For Open Banking, the award of ‘IT Team of the Year’ was another win in 2018 and further recognition for the project.

Gunnar Berger, Head of Open Banking at Nordea, says: “We are really pleased to have won the award for IT Team of the Year as Open Banking is above all a team effort. The project’s goal is to drive innovation by facilitating a unique collaboration between ourselves and a large number of external developers. Our own Open Banking team have really focused on establishing a community and maintaining the fantastic energy we have all received from the positive response to the project. We are working together to bring the benefits of Open Banking to our customers by enabling the development of new and exciting solutions.”
