Customer experience: Address a specific customer need. How does your solution enhance the overall customer experience? Consider usability, convenience, and satisfaction.

Wow factor: Surprise and delight the jury! The wow factor is about going beyond the expected. Innovative ideas, elegant design, or unexpected features can make your solution stand out.

Feasibility: Assess how likely it is to successfully bring your solution into actual use. Consider technical feasibility, scalability, and practical implementation challenges.

Timeline: Your solution should be able to be developed within 9 months from conceptualisation to implementation.

Tooling: Teams can leverage libraries, frameworks, or open-source code in conjunction with available AWS services.

Live demos: During presentations, only live demos are accepted. No paper presentations. Ensure your solution is runnable and ready to showcase.

Remember, creativity, practicality, and technical prowess will play a crucial role in winning this hackathon!

Competition rules, guidelines to help you navigate the event effectively

Team size: Teams should consist of 3 to 6 students. Keep this in mind while forming your team.

Acceptance limit: Only 15 teams are guaranteed acceptance into the hackathon. To increase your chances, provide a detailed description of your idea as input to the selection process.

Support and advice: During the hackathon, teams can seek advice and support from organisers, mentors, and colleagues in the audience. Leverage this opportunity to enhance your project.

Idea selection. Teams can either choose from ideas prepared by organisers (available in the Idea Bank) or you can bring your own unique ideas.

Work during the event: All project work must be done during the hackathon event. AWS environments will be accessible from the evening before the hackathon starts, allowing you to commence work and hit the ground running.

Presentation and winners: In the presentation event, a jury will select the overall winner. Additionally, the audience will vote for their favorite.

Disqualification: Teams can be disqualified at the organisers’ discretion. Reasons may include breaking the competition rules or engaging in unsporting behavior.

Pre-existing ideas: Teams can use an idea they had before the event and as long as you do not re-use code or other artifacts. Working on a project before the event and open-sourcing it for the sole purpose of using the code during the event is against the spirit of the rules and is not allowed.

Adding features to existing projects: Teams can add new features to existing projects. The jury will consider new functionality introduced or additional features during the hackathon when determining winners.

Time limit and debugging: Teams must stop hacking once the time is up on Friday 3 May at 14.30. However, you are allowed to debug and make small fixes to your programs after the official time ends. For example, fixing a critical bug with a few lines of code is acceptable, but major changes or new features are not allowed.

Remember, adherence to these rules will contribute to a fair and exciting hackathon experience.
