This accessibility statement applies to the website
The website is subject to the Finnish Act on the Provision of Digital Services, which requires that digital services provided by a credit institution must be accessible.

This accessibility statement was published on 31 December 2020. The accessibility of the service has been assessed by Nordea.

Compliance status

The website is partially compliant with the accessibility requirements.

Non-accessible content

The website is not yet fully accessible in the following identified areas.
The goal is to have the identified gaps fixed during 2021, unless otherwise stated below.  The following content and/or functions do not yet meet the accessibility requirements:

Empty headings on listings

On listings of content (for example news and documents), empty headings appear in the code. We are working on fixing this, but as long as the headings are completely empty, they will be ignored by screen readers.

Heading structure

Visual headings are correctly marked up as headings in the code, but on some pages headings are used for example for quotes or other emphasised content that should not have been a heading.

Non-specific links

Some pages that contain lists of content have “Read more” or “See all” links. We are working on making these links more specific.

Images missing an alternative text

In job ads, decorative images are not marked up as decorative in the code, which could cause screen readers to for example read out the full URL for the image instead. The job ads come from a recruiting system, which we are working on replacing in the spring of 2021. We will therefore not fix this issue in the current recruiting system.
Other images may be missing an appropriate text alternative that conveys the information from the image. Examples are organisational charts or process descriptions.

Missing accessible name for content search fields

In search functions for content, for example for news and job postings, search fields are missing an accessible name. We are working to correct this in relation to other content than job ads.

Missing accessible name for drop-down menus for filtering

For drop-down menus for filtering content, for example for news and job postings, the drop-downs are missing an accessible name. The first option is chosen by default, and serves as the label for the drop-down (for example “Choose country”), which makes the component usable, if not fully accessible. We are working to correct this in relation to other content than job ads.

Language version links are missing language definition

The links for choosing different language versions of the website (English, Dansk, Norsk, Suomi, Svenska) will be read out in the language in which the website is currently shown, because they are missing a language attribute to communicate which language they are in.

The website does not have a link to skip directly to main content. However, the website does have landmarks and headings that can be useful to many users to quickly navigate past blocks of repeated content such as the navigation menu.

Error messages not correctly read out

There may be content where error messages are not properly conveyed to assistive technologies. For example in the “Share alerts” form the error messages are not automatically read out by screen readers, which can make it harder to detect that an error has occurred.

Keyboard focus is not always visible

There may be situations in both the navigation menu and the content where it is not clearly visible which element currently has keyboard focus.

Share price component

The share price component has issues with the reading order that can make it hard to understand for a screen reader user. It serves as a link to a page that has that same information in a table. This table is missing mark-up for headers, but is largely accessible.

Drop-downs for example for choosing currency do not function properly when using a screen reader.

Share profit/loss indicators missing accessible alternative

In the “Latest trades” tab the arrows indicating profit or loss are not readable by a screen reader because the icons are missing an alternative text. The amounts are, however, readable.

Some calculators such as the “Investment calculator”, “IBAN validator” and the “Reference number calculator” may pose accessibility challenges to some users with assistive technologies.

PDF documents

We are currently in the process of making all PDF documents compliant with the accessibility requirements. We have identified gaps relating to PDFs and disclosed them. Our goal is, however, that all PDFs published on our website after 23 September 2018 comply with the accessibility requirements by the end of February 2021.

Content for which we invoke a disproportionate burden

The content, visual look and structure of the website will be updated in 2021 with the new website being released in the summer of 2021.  In addition to creating a new website, we are correcting the deficiencies in the accessibility of the current website with limited resources.

Content not within the scope of the applicable legislation

The applicable legislation (the Finnish Act on the Provision of Digital Services (306/2019)) does not apply to the following content, which may not be fully accessible:

  • Office software files (for example doc, pdf and odt) published before 23 September 2018.
  • online content archived before 23 September 2019.
  • video or audio recordings released before 23 September 2020.
