Hi Amalie – you’ve just returned after a six-month rotation in Nordea’s New York branch. How was it?
My time in New York was a great experience all round. I feel very lucky to have been given the opportunity to live and work in such a dynamic and wonderful city. During my six-month stay, I got to work in an international environment with friendly and encouraging colleges while having spare time to experience the city’s vibrant neighbourhoods.
What was your typical day like?
Due to the time difference between New York and the Nordics, our working day often started with discussions with our colleagues in the Nordic countries about relevant corporate customers. This covered credit processes, business strategies, sales pitches, pricing, loan documentation and more.
After that, we prepared presentations, credit reviews, proposals, calculations, data and process optimisation and worked on ad hoc requests from customers. We coordinated customer activities and worked together with various stakeholders at Nordea on customer cases, to maximise business potential and ensure the best customer experience.
After work, I would typically go out with friends and colleagues, sampling everything New York had to offer – from bars and restaurants to theatres, concerts, jazz clubs, museums and galleries to name just a few.
