“A creative and innovative idea to strengthen customer advice through existing partnerships – delivered by a team with high energy and vision,” said Anders Nicander, Head of One Digital, shortly before announcing the winning solution of this year’s Graduate Case Competition.

The Case Competition is an annual event open to second-year participants of the Nordea Graduate Programme. This year, 23 graduates were challenged to investigate how partnerships could support Nordea’s business aspirations and provide more value for our customers.

The winning case was chosen for its simple way of expanding the value proposition for customers. It combines two existing partnerships into one solution, enabling Nordea to learn more about customers’ purchases and suggest how they can optimise their spending. The outcome: customers save money and potentially choose more sustainable alternatives.

“It gave me so much energy working with real-life business scenarios where we not only learnt more about the banking ecosystem and the business areas, but were also challenged to work closely together and under time pressure to deliver a result.”

Under pressure

With less than 30 hours to complete the challenge, the graduates had to work quickly to find a good solution before pitching their case to the judges.

Clara Francino and her team were runners-up with their solution for strengthening Nordea’s position as a leading digital bank. She comments on the Case Competition experience:

“It gave me so much energy working with real-life business scenarios where we not only learnt more about the banking ecosystem and the business areas, but were also challenged to work closely together and under time pressure to deliver a result.”

And adds:

“I was really impressed and surprised by the different strengths we had in the team. The good collaboration and the open and safe environment for brainstorming, being creative and producing material were the highlights of the experience. I can highly recommend this to future graduates.”
