07-07-2021 09:00

Summer means holiday; chilling in the sun, playing and having fun with friends and family. But not for these six young talents. They choose to spend their summer with us, learning about the world of finance, and having fun with fellow interns and Nordea people at our trading floor in Oslo.

So who are the summer interns joining us this year! What are their backgrounds? Why do they want to spend their summer with us? You’ll get all the answers in this, their first blog.

We’re pleased to introduce you to Martine, Ari, Signe, Peder, Eirin and Vetle.

Martine E.S. Kverne

Martine, what are you studying?

I am studying at the Norwegian School Of Economics (NHH), in my 4th year, Major in Finance.

Why did you apply to the Summer Internship?

I thought this was an unique opportunity to get experience with several divisions enabled by the rotating programme. I hope to get a deeper understanding of the financial markets, and to get hands on experience were I am looking forward to challenging and interesting projects. Furthermore, I am looking forward to getting to know the people and see how they work on a daily basis.

What do you hope to learn from the internship?

I have several interests and therefore I hope to learn a lot from everyone working at Nordea. Furthermore, with the rotating programme, I hope to get a an overview an learn more about potential careers opportunities. In addition, I was impressed by Nordea’s sustainability focus, and I am eager to learn more about how they work with sustainability in finance.

Fun fact! What do you do in your spare time?

I like to spend time with my friends, and I also have several hobbies and interest where I love doing sports such as skiing, riding, playing squash and golf.

Eirin Saugen Skagseth

Eirin, what are you studying?

I completed my bachelor degree in finance at BI Norwegian Business School, and I continue that path as I now study for my master’s degree with specialization in corporate finance.

Why did you apply to the Summer Internship?

I really liked the way the internship was structured, and I know someone who’s had a great experience in this internship previously. Additionally, I have heard that the culture and working environment is remarkable and this is something that really appeals to me.

What do you hope to learn from the internship?

I hope to make use of Nordea’s broad portfolio of services to get experience from different divisions within Nordea Markets, LC&I and Investment Banking. In addition, I am excited to see how my theoretical knowledge is relevant in practice.

Fun fact! What do you do in your spare time?

In high school I studied media and communication. And I don’t have spare time!

Eirin was nominated “Norway’s Corporate Finance woman of the Year” – check it out!

Peder Loholt Kristiansen

Peder, what are you studying?

I study for my master’s degree in Finance and Strategic Management at Copenhagen Business School (CBS). Prior to CBS, I completed my bachelor in finance at the University of Rhode Island in the United States, while I played college soccer. Finance is definitely my main field of specialization, although my master’s degree incorporates corporate strategy as well.

Why did you apply to the Summer Internship?

Nordea is the leading bank in the Nordics in many aspects within the field of finance. Knowing that the internship offers plenty of opportunities to explore different divisions made the internship very attractive to me.

Also, Nordea stated that they look for motivation and personalities, which shows their focus on a good working environment which is an important aspect for me.

What do you hope to learn from the internship?

I hope to get an overall grasp of the different services Nordea provides, and to learn as much as possible within the respective fields. Further, I want to explore and find out where my skills and personality might fit.

Fun fact! What do you do in your spare time?

I am super interested in football, and I have played my entire life. I still play, although in a lower division in Denmark.

Vetle Skeime Kostøl

Vetle, what are you studying?

I am currently one year into my master’s degree in Finance & Investments from Copenhagen Business School. Prior to CBS I have a bachelor’s degree from BI Norwegian Business School and have spent a semester at NUS in Singapore.

Why did you apply to the Summer Internship?

My main motivation for this specific internship was the structure of the internship. Rotating around departments within Nordea allows us to get exposure to many different aspects of banking and makes us more well-rounded as finance professionals.

What do you hope to learn from the internship?

I hope to get insight into how banking actually is in practice as well as how what I have learned in class can be translated into applicable skills. During my internship I also want to connect with many different people through departments to get insight into their daily tasks and challenges. I also hope to be able to bounce some possible master thesis topics off some of the more experienced professionals.

Fun fact! What do you do in your spare time?

In my spare time I enjoy sports, more specifically cross-country skiing and running. Fun fact: I am colour blind.

Signe Kristine Solstad Midtun

Signe, what are you studying?

I study at the the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH), where I am majoring in Finance.

Why did you apply to the Summer Internship?

The summer internship at Nordea is unique with its rotation program. As I wish to get a better understanding of how the financial market work I found the internship perfect as we will get experience within several divisions.

What do you hope to learn from the internship?

I am looking forward to learning from working on-site with the high-quality employees at Nordea Markets. The learning curve has already been steep during the first week here, and I expect it to continue in the same direction. I have already worked one week with the DCM division, which has been solely a good experience.

Fun fact! What do you do in your spare time?

I am an outdoor person, where I especially enjoy hiking in the mountains. During Corona I have also started knitting, like the rest of Norway, and I have approximately knitted 20 sweaters in one year.

Psst! Signe is featured in an article in “Dagens Næringsliv” – have a look

Ari Hammer

Ari, what are you studying?

I study MSc in Advanced Economics and Finance at Copenhagen Business School – and have previously studied BBA at NTNU.

Why did you apply to the Summer Internship?

What I find attractive about this internship is that we are rotated through multiple projects, in different sectors of the bank. Being able to work in interesting fields such as FX, derivatives, interest rates, Equity Research, Investment Banking etc. will give you an insight into what you might want to do in the future, which I find to be very valuable.

What do you hope to learn from the internship?

During my time here, I hope to learn more about what work the different sectors do and how they work in practice. Being able to combine this practical experience with my theoretical understanding, allowing me to be more complete and confident moving forward is what I hope to achieve and learn from this internship. Now that one week has passed, I can already see how challenging these projects are, and with a steep learnings curve, which makes me more eager to learn more!

Fun fact? What do you do in your spare time?

I enjoy spending my spare time on various things, such as photo editing, cooking, stocks, and socialising with friends and family. These are activities that I find to be relaxing and interesting! Fun fact: I played in amateur football division in Turkey during my gap year.

Moving on, have a look at their second blog where they tell about their first weeks with us.
