WFIP has been a confidence boost – an inspiring and fun learning experience

“After each session, I felt excited and looked forward to the next one. I definitely feel more equipped to take the next step in my career after having joined Women’s Finance Insight Programme,” said Lina. “It was a confidence boost. WFIP was informative and also incredibly engaging and personal – I didn’t expect to walk away so inspired and motivated,” said Hanna. Read the students blog summing up their experiences from our annual Women’s Finance Insight Programme.

This is the fourth and final blog in our WFIP 2025 series, where four of the 65 participants have shared their learnings and highlights of the spring sessions. They explored the different business areas and career opportunities within Nordea Markets, Investment Banking & Equities and Leveraged Finance. On top of gaining insight to the world of finance, they also had a great time, networking with fellow students and Nordea professionals. Lina and Hanna tell you all about it in their blog.

Eye-openers and key takeaways

One of the biggest eye-openers for me has been discovering the wide range of departments within finance. After having attended WFIP, I have a far more nuanced understanding, not only of the different roles that exist, but also of how these departments are interconnected. I have gotten a greater understanding of how different teams might work on the same transaction, but from different angles.

Another key takeaway was hearing about the diverse career paths of the Nordea representatives. Everyone’s journey is different and it might take some time and years of work to find where you belong within the bank.

Open and friendly atmosphere

For me, the best parts of the programme were connecting with all the girls in the group, and having the opportunity to ask any and every question to the Nordea representatives. Every session had a very open and friendly atmosphere, where all questions were welcomed no matter how big or small. That made it much easier to learn and feel comfortable and really get the most out of this experience. After each session, I felt excited and looked forward to the next one.

The content of each session always varied. Some departments walked us through real-life cases, while others focused more on open Q&A sessions. This mix kept things dynamic and gave us a broad perspective on the different areas of finance.

Clearer overview and incredibly useful tips

I definitely feel more equipped to take the next step in my career after having joined WFIP. This programme has given me a much clearer overview of the different career paths within finance and a better understanding of where I might want to focus in the future. Learning about the various departments and their roles has helped me reflect on what I find most interesting and where I could see myself working in the future.

On top of that, the practical tips and insights we received, especially around interviews and how to present ourselves, will be incredibly useful when I start applying for full-time roles after graduation. Overall, I feel more confident and prepared for what’s ahead.

Apply for WFIP – it’s a great and fun learning opportunity

If you are curious about Nordea as an employer, or finance in general, I would highly recommend you to apply for WFIP. It is a great learning opportunity and also it has been so fun to meet and connect with all of the other girls that have signed up for this programme.

We have really gotten to know each other during these past weeks and gotten the opportunity to learn from each other as well as learning from all the representatives at Nordea. Whether you're already confident in your finance knowledge or just starting out, this programme offers valuable insights, connections, and inspiration.

Genuinely helpful and happy to answer all questions

My expectations were exceeded. I joined the programme with an open mind, hoping to learn more about Nordea. I certainly did learn more about Nordea, but I also feel like I gained much more than that. I had the opportunity to connect with many like-minded individuals also eager to learn more about finance. I also got to both develop my finance skills as well as getting a more nuanced picture of what working in finance really means. I understand what they do in their day-to-day work, the timelines of their projects, and what the people working there find most exciting about their roles.

What stood out the most, though, was the openness and willingness to share from everyone at Nordea. The representatives were genuinely helpful and happy to answer all our questions, no matter how big or small. Thanks for that – I feel I’ve gotten a true glimpse into the culture at Nordea.

Just what I was looking for

After this, I could absolutely see myself working at Nordea. I was already planning to pursue a career in finance before joining the programme, and this experience has only strengthened that ambition, particularly at Nordea. That kind and supportive, learning-oriented culture I experienced at Nordea is exactly what I’m looking for in an employer.

Nordea feels like a place where I could truly develop. On top of that, Nordea’s position as the largest bank in the Nordics offers a unique advantage, creating the possibility of a wide range of career opportunities, all within one organisation.

A confidence boost

One of my greatest learnings during WFIP was discovering how much I can grow when placed in a challenging, professional environment. I realized that even though finance can seem intimidating from the outside, I have the ability to understand complex topics, contribute meaningfully, and ask the right questions. It was a confidence boost that reshaped how I see my potential in this field. I learned that curiosity is one of the most important tools in finance.

Incredibly supportive and inspiring atmosphere

The best part of the programme was getting a behind-the-scenes look at what professionals in the industry actually do, through real conversations and learning directly from their experiences. It made the financial world feel much more accessible and concrete. I was especially impressed by the guidance we received on navigating job applications and preparing for interviews. It really stood out to me how genuinely invested the team was in helping us succeed. It didn’t feel like a one-way learning experience but like we were being prepared and supported to take real steps toward our future careers. What also made a lasting impression was how open and approachable everyone was. No question felt too small, and we were encouraged to be curious, which created an incredibly supportive and inspiring atmosphere.

Transparency and honesty

The programme have made me feel more equipped to take the next step in my career. It not only deepened my understanding of the finance industry, but also gave me practical tools and advice that I can apply right away, especially when it comes to the job application process and interview preparation.

What made a real difference was the transparency and honesty from the professionals we met. Hearing about their career journeys, the challenges they’ve faced, and the skills applied, helped me reflect on my own strengths and where I want to go next. The combination of industry insights, hands-on learning, and career coaching gave me both the confidence and clarity I needed to move forward with a stronger sense of direction.

Just apply – it’s a rare chance

My advice to students thinking about applying to WFIP, would be don’t hesitate, just apply, even if you’re not entirely sure whether finance is for you yet. This programme is a rare chance for women to explore different areas of the industry in a supportive environment. You don’t need to know everything beforehand, but what matters the most is showing interest and willingness to learn. Be open, ask questions, and engage fully for this programme. It is more than just a learning experience; at its best it can be a step forward toward the career of your dreams.

Engaging and personal

Going into WFIP, I expected an insightful introduction to the finance industry, but what I experienced went far beyond that. The programme was not only informative, but also incredibly engaging and personal. I didn’t expect to connect so deeply with the people, both the professionals and the other students, or to walk away feeling so inspired and motivated.

Supporting you talent

I can absolutely see myself working at Nordea. I truly believe it’s the kind of environment where I could reach my full potential with the support of experienced professionals and grow into the career I aspire to have. My experience during the programme gave me a strong sense of how Nordea supports young talent, and that’s exactly the kind of environment I see myself growing in.
