Last week Nordea organised a unique AI Hackathon | Nordea together with Amazon Web Services and KTH (the Royal Institute of Technology). One of the jury members was the new head of Private Banking Lotta Bourgoin, who hopes that the competition can attract future talent to Nordea.
“It was really fun to see the students’ tremendous commitment and fascinating concepts. This type of event increases both our capabilities for innovation and serves as a good channel for attracting talent. We hope to be able to spin many of the ideas further, and I believe that interest in Nordea as an employer may have gained a boost within the AI sphere,” comments Lotta.
Creativity, practicality and technical skill played a crucial role in winning this hackathon. The teams were given access to libraries, frameworks or open source code together with available AWS services.
KTH AI Society convinced the jury with its solution, which would enable visitors to our Nordea.xx sites to obtain help through AI with deepening, simplifying or translating the content of selected parts of the texts. This would lead to further inclusion and improved customer experience.
“The excellent contributions of the various teams really reinforced the image of AI as an enabler of heightened productivity and faster time-to-market, not least for our engineers’ work on streamlining the value chain within system development,” explains sponsor Joacim Dahlgren Wanhainen.
Improves user-friendliness
“Banking is an area that is strictly regulated and therefore uses terminology that may feel unfamiliar to regular users. Some words can be difficult to understand. To enable Nordea to establish itself as the leading consumer bank in the Nordics, the ability to guide and educate consumers forms part of the trust process. Our solution therefore addresses difficult terminology with definitions and examples, just a click away from the user,” explains Timothy Lindblom of the KTH AI Society.
He continues, “This improves user-friendliness and gives all users a better understanding of the terminology – simply yet reliably.”
“Thanks to the members of the jury and the entire Nordea team, who were fantastic hosts,” says Avid Fayaz, who also competed for the winning team.
The jury and organiser team – the cornerstones behind the Hackathon
The experienced jury consists of leaders from Nordea and Amazon Web Services (AWS). These experts have solid expertise and experience in areas such as artificial intelligence, application development, IT infrastructure and business targets in the financial sector. The driving force behind this event is a dedicated group of employees from Nordea and AWS.
