From customer service to ESG professional in Nordea’s finance team

That’s where people like Tuuli Rinta-Tassi comes in.  As part of Nordea´s Group Finance ESG team, Tuuli works with sustainable finance and green lending initiatives. Together with her colleagues, she helps turn complex regulatory requirements and data into meaningful insights, supporting sustainability reporting across the bank.  

Let’s find out what it’s like to work as Senior ESG Business Developer in Nordea’s finance team: 

What brought you to Group Finance in Finland? 

I was drawn to Group Finance because it combines analytical work with the opportunity to make a real impact. I was particularly interested in the growing role of sustainable finance and the chance to work on topics that are becoming increasingly important for both the banking sector and society.  

In Nordea’s finance team, we are committed to keeping customers first. Yet, because many of us work behind the scenes rather than directly with customers, it can sometimes be difficult to see how our work impacts the customer experience. You bring a strong customer background to your current role in finance. How do you link Nordea’s customers with the finance function? 

Although my current role is not customer-facing, the work my team and I do has a direct impact on the trust customers put in Nordea. We help ensure that Nordea´s sustainability reporting is transparent, reliable and aligned with regulatory requirements. By providing clear and accurate information, we support customers, investors and other stakeholders in understanding how Nordea contributes to the green transition.  

What possibilities do you see for those who want to build their competence and career in Group Finance and Nordea? What are your recommendations? 

Group Finance offers many opportunities to learn, grow and explore different career paths. My advice is to stay curious, be open to new challenges and build a broad understanding of how the bank operates. Some of the most valuable learning comes from collaborating with colleagues across teams and stepping outside your comfort zone.  

Throughout your career so far, you have seen many perspectives of ESG. What have you learnt so far and how do you see the future? 

One of the biggest lessons I´ve learned is that meaningful progress in sustainability is never achieved by one team alone. ESG is often associated with regulations and reporting, but at its core it is about people working together towards a shared goal. Looking ahead, I believe sustainability will become even more embedded in everyday business decisions, supported by better data, new technology and closer collaboration across industries/organizations.
