What makes the Nordic fintech ecosystem stand out today?

The Nordics have a unique combination of trust, digital maturity and entrepreneurial talent. Strong digital infrastructure, high levels of customer adoption and a focus on solving real customer problems have created fertile ground for innovation.

The ecosystem has matured significantly over the past decade. The conversation is no longer about banks versus fintechs. Increasingly, it is about partnerships, shared innovation and talent moving across the ecosystem. That exchange of ideas and expertise strengthens the industry and helps us create better solutions for customers.

Nordea has been involved in the ecosystem for many years. What role does the bank play?

As the largest bank in the Nordics, we have a responsibility to be an active contributor to the fintech ecosystem. That starts with supporting entrepreneurship and growth by helping promising companies access the support they need to scale.

We also play an important role in driving digital transformation across the region. As a major technology hub, we continue to invest in our digital capabilities – from open banking to modern platforms and customer experiences. With our scale, we can bring innovation to millions of customers across the Nordics.

Fintech partnerships are a key part of that journey. By combining Nordea's scale, trust and customer reach with specialised fintech expertise, we can accelerate innovation, create better customer experiences and bring new ideas to market faster.

That is why we continue to invest in the ecosystem through partnerships, technology development and initiatives such as the Nordic Fintech Awards, which spotlight the talent and innovation shaping the future of financial services.

Strong digital infrastructure, high levels of customer adoption and a focus on solving real customer problems have created fertile ground for innovation.

The Nordics are known for producing innovative companies. What is the next challenge and where do you see the biggest opportunities?

The Nordics are exceptionally good at creating ideas, products and companies. The opportunity now is to help more of those companies scale internationally and grow into global leaders. To get there, we need ambition, collaboration and stronger access to growth capital within the Nordics so companies can continue their growth journeys from the region.

At the same time, AI presents significant opportunities to create more personalised and proactive financial services to help customers make better decisions. Success will depend on how well companies combine innovation and AI with trust, responsible use of data and a deep understanding of customer needs.

Looking ahead, what will keep the Nordic fintech ecosystem competitive?

One of the reasons the Nordic fintech ecosystem continues to thrive is the constant exchange of ideas, expertise and talent between startups, scaleups and established institutions. That combination of collaboration, healthy competition and shared ambition is what will keep the Nordics at the forefront of financial innovation in the years ahead.

I believe we will see more Nordic companies grow into global leaders, supported by strong collaboration across the ecosystem. The biggest opportunities ahead are too complex for any single organisation to solve alone.
