Nordea included in the S&P Sustainability Yearbook for the first time

An improved score in S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment has resulted in Nordea’s inclusion in the S&P Sustainability Yearbook 2023, one of the world’s most important publications of ESG ratings. This first ever listing in the S&P Sustainability Yearbook places Nordea amongst the top 15% sustainable banks globally.

With ESG ratings becoming increasingly important to analysts and investors, a key part of Nordea’s investor relations strategy is to expand the range and depth of the bank’s ESG reporting. Nordea took part in the assessment for the first time three years ago and has continuously improved its score.

“S&P Global’s CSA is undoubtedly amongst the top three ESG ratings in the world in terms of importance. It’s fantastic to see the improvements being made and Nordea taking its place in the S&P Sustainability Yearbook as one of the world’s most sustainable banks,” says Senior Investor Relations Officer Juho-Pekka Jääskeläinen.

For Nordea it’s crucial that the CSA results reflect our ESG position as accurately as possible as the bank is making a number of very important advances in this area. To drive a more sustainable economy we have committed to becoming a bank with net-zero emissions by 2050 and have set a medium-term objective to reduce carbon emissions across our lending and investment portfolios by 40-50% by 2030.

What is the S&P Sustainability Yearbook?

Each year, S&P Global announces the results of their annual Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) of around 8,000 companies worldwide. The CSA consists of approximately 100 questions assessing both public and non-public data submitted by participating companies.

Using ESG ratings and analytics, companies are evaluated on a range of factors such as overall sustainability credentials, environmental policies, governance, employee welfare, security and approaches to social issues. Companies with a CSA score within the top 15% of their industry as well as within 30% of their industry’s top performing company are then considered Sustainability Yearbook Members.
