In spring, we welcomed yet another group of talented students to join our renowned Future Finance Professional programme at our headquarters in Helsinki. In a series of blogs during summer, we aim the spotlight at some of our FFP interns to hear about their work, their impressions, learnings and fun times as FFPs. First up is Hanna, who works in our Data Management team – and is enjoying every minute of it – this is why.

Hanna Hämäläinen, FFP in Data Management

Hi, I’m Hanna, and I’ve joined Nordea as Assistant Analyst in the Data Management team in the Large Corporates & Institutions (LC&I) organisation, through the Future Finance Professional (FFP) program.

In my role as FFP in the Data Management team, I work at the intersection of data, technology, and business, supporting how data is structured, governed, and used across the organization. As an Information Architect, I contribute to the development of data products and support how data is structured, defined and governed across the organization.

My work includes ensuring that Nordea’s data aligns with regulatory requirements, supporting our data governance framework, and working with areas such as data quality and reporting. I’ve also had the opportunity to explore AI-related initiatives, which has given me insight into how emerging technologies can shape the future of banking.

A welcoming and supportive environment

What I find particularly rewarding about working here as FFP is the variety in my work. Some tasks are more analytical and require strong data skills, while others focus on collaboration, communication, and problem-solving with different stakeholders. Being trusted with responsibility early on has really helped me grow both professionally and personally. From the beginning, I felt welcomed into a supportive and open environment where asking questions and learning along the way is strongly encouraged.

The role has also provided a great opportunity to understand how the bank operates as a whole. Through both daily work and the FFP Summer Academy, where different teams across the bank present their work, I’ve gained a clearer picture of how various functions are connected, and how the bank’s activities are reflected in the broader financial ecosystem.

Opportunity to develop in a supportive and inspiring environment

For me, one of the highlights of the FFP program is the community. You are trusted with real responsibilities from day one, while also being part of a group of FFPs who are all learning and growing together. It’s been valuable to share experiences, support each other, and build connections across the organisation.

In addition, it has been especially interesting to work on the FFP summer project alongside fellow FFPs from different teams, which has helped me learn new concepts and gain fresh perspectives. The social activities and events organised by our Fun Managers have also made it easy to feel included and connect with colleagues beyond our immediate teams.

Overall, the FFP program has been a great way to start my career. It has given me the opportunity to grow, explore new areas, and develop in a supportive and inspiring environment. One key lesson, I've learned, is that you don’t need to have all the answers from the beginning. What matters is staying curious, being open to learning and not being afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
