Frank Vang-Jensen named Finland’s Transformation Leader of the Year

Our President and Group CEO Frank Vang-Jensen has been named Finland’s Transformation Leader of the Year for 2023. According to an expert jury, Frank Vang-Jensen has succeeded in driving the growth of Nordea’s business and shareholder value.

The award is conferred annually by a jury consisting of business experts in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

According to the jury, Nordea’s success is driven by a determined transformation agenda that has created major value for the shareholders. Since Frank Vang-Jensen became CEO on September 5, 2019, Nordea has generated an average annual return of 23% (TSR) for its owners, which is significantly higher than its Nordic and global peers.

"Receiving this award is a great honour and I thank the jury for the recognition. Credit goes to the whole team at Nordea – their hard work and dedication have moved us forward. Today, we are in a strong position to support our customers and positively contribute to the social and economic development of the Nordic region," said Frank Vang-Jensen.

Shareholder value has been driven by determined actions to create a high-performance culture, generate growth, improve customer satisfaction and people engagement, and attract experts. According to the jury, a great example of Vang-Jensen's successful leadership is Nordea’s selection as the best corporate and mobile bank in the Nordic countries in 2022.

For the fifth year

Frank Vang-Jensen is the fifth recipient of the award, which recognises leaders who have been particularly successful in driving transformation in companies based in Finland. Last year’s Transformation Leader of the Year was Heikki Malinen, the CEO of Outokumpu, the global stainless steel manufacturer.

In the process of selecting the Transformation Leader of the Year, Jorma Eloranta, Board professional, Antti Viljakainen, Chief Analyst at Inderes, and Teemu Ruska and Mikko Tynkkynen, partners at BCG Helsinki, analysed the performance of companies operating in Finland under the current CEO and during recent years.

The jury analyzed Finnish companies that have generated the best value for shareholders (revenue over EUR 500 million). The jury selected the winner from among the best value-generating companies based on the company’s success, especially in relation to Nordic and international companies in the same industry, the changes that have been made behind the success and the role of the leader in the process of change.
