Hormona wins the Nordea Social Impact Award: Female hormones should be the start of the conversation, not the end.

Hormonal imbalance affect many women around the world, yet understanding and support remain limited. This is the issue that startup Hormona wants to address by enabling women to take control of their hormonal health. This summer they won the Nordea Social Impact Award at the Tech Arena in Almedalen.We met up with Karolina Löfqvist, co-founder and CEO of Hormona.

Over three busy days almost 30 companies pitched their ideas in Nordea’s temporary elevator at Techarenan in Almedalen. Competition was fierce and after a challenging selection process, Hormona was finally chosen as the winner of Nordea’s Social Impact Award. This award is given to the company with the greatest potential to contribute to a better world, and is one of the prizes given out within the framework of Techarenan Challenge.

 - With their unique and innovative solution, they can revolutionize the market. The solution is flexible with the potential to reach a large part of the world's population. Women's health is something that is becoming increasingly in focus, in society at large and also in the workplace. Hormona was originally founded in London but in 2023 the company was set up in Sweden, which is considered a key strategic market. Today Hormona resides at Norrsken, a Stockholm tech hub for entrepreneurs with a vision to make the world a better place.

First-hand experiences spurred the founding of Hormona

Hormonal imbalances affect many women, yet understanding and support for these issues are limited. Karolina Löfqvist, co-founder and CEO of Hormona, experienced this first-hand and it made her found Hormona.

 - I was going through a challenging period. I lost my wellbeing and struggled with a range of debilitating symptoms. I sought help from multiple doctors but they failed to understand the connection between my emotional state and physical issues, says Karolina Löfqvist.

Determined to find answers, Karolina took matters into her own hands. She did extensive research, consulted overseas specialists, and eventually got her diagnosis. She was suffering from an underactive thyroid and hormonal imbalance. It was during this journey that Karolina realized the need for better awareness and management of hormonal health, and founded Hormona. 

 - By leveraging the power of data and technology, we are making it possible for women to understand their bodies in ways that’s never been possible before. Our aim is to provide women with the information and tools they need to optimize their hormonal health and live their best lives, says Karolina Löfqvist.

Hormona – global leader in women’s health

In addition to building a strong team, the focus right now is to build a user-friendly and intuitive app that provides accurate data analysis and valuable insights.

 - The Hormona app is designed to be a comprehensive resource with educational content, personalized recommendations and a seamless tracking experience, says Karolina Löfqvist.

The next step is to promote the use of the Hormona app, and an at-home test feature is key to this.

 - We are eagerly working towards the launch of our at-home hormone tests. This is a significant step for us as it will truly revolutionize how women understand their bodies and hormonal health. We have exciting partnerships in the pipeline to pilot our tests, which will further validate their effectiveness and drive their adoption on a larger scale, says Karolina Löfqvist.

The vision is to establish Hormona as a global leader in women’s health by expanding into new markets.

 - We have already made much progress by beta testing our app in key markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom, and the results are extremely promising, continues Karolina Löfqvist.
