Nordea recognised as climate transition leader in new Morningstar Sustainalytics report
The ESG research firm Morningstar Sustainalytics has recently published a new report identifying companies that are taking steps to reduce emissions, set actionable targets and implement good governance practices. Nordea is highlighted as a sector leader for its significant progress in reducing emissions and its comprehensive climate targets.
According to Morningstar Sustainalytics, the new Climate Transition Leaders report aims to identify companies that are frontrunners in both their readiness for and action towards the climate transition. Climate risk may influence long-term business performance and is therefore critical for investors. The report analyses 11 different sectors, providing a snapshot of the challenges and opportunities within each sector.
The report is a testament of our dedicated work to reduce emissions and support our customers in financing their transition.
The screening criteria in the report consider efforts towards emissions reductions, the existence of systematic targets and good climate governance. The report also incorporates data points from Morningstar Sustainalytics’ own research products, including their Low Carbon Transition Risk Management score, Carbon Intensity Trend indicator and Low Carbon Transition Leaders index.
Focusing on the financial sector, the report describes how the industry is shifting to a pragmatic phase of decarbonisation where bolder climate pledges meet political, regulatory and operational constraints. Nordea is highlighted for its strong climate governance, comprehensive climate targets and success in significantly reducing both internal and financed emissions.
