I am a MSc student at Aalto University majoring in Information and Service Management, and as a minor, I studied Economics and spent an exchange semester at Madrid last year. I currently have only my master’s thesis left which I am planning on to write next fall.
I started my FFP journey quite early on, already in January, so I have had time to familiarise with the team and my tasks. I work as an Assistant Controller in Financial & Risk Control in the Business Control Solutions team in Large Corporates & Institutions (LC&I).
Since the beginning of my internship, I have been involved in quite many various tasks. The biggest part of my job has been to contribute to two projects where I have been investigating possible solutions and developing demo versions to get comprehensive understanding of what kind of options we have.
In addition, I try to bring new perspective and use my technical skills to recognize processes that could be automated, as well as carry out the automation. Furthermore, I also help supporting activities regarding knowledge and competence, and maintaining the LC&I Risk & Compliance training programs.
The icing on the cake
In my role, you truly benefit from having a bit technical background for example basic knowledge of SQL and Python, and of course everyone’s favourite, Excel. On the other hand, I did not have previous knowledge of power BI, -apps or -automate, but here I have had the opportunities and great support to learn those during my internship. Besides developing my competences, maybe the best part is to get to see how your work are being used in practise.
Enjoying lunch with LC&I colleagues on the terrace at Nordea's headquarters in Helsinki.
On top of learning new skills, perhaps the most interesting part has been to get a practical overview of banking. When working on the trading floor, you truly get to hear and see how things are done across different market areas. Also, you get to meet fellow FFPs with different backgrounds and hear about their tasks.
Last but not least, the various social FFP events that our so-called Fun Managers arrange and host for us, plus the impulsive after works with FFPs and colleagues, and the overall positive atmosphere at work and after hours, are the icing on the cake.
I enjoy every minute of my FFP internship.
