Nordea’s Head of Group Public & Regulatory Affairs Jyrki Katainen designated as Special Adviser for the EU-Arctic relations
The European Commission has designated Nordea’s Head of Group Public & Regulatory Affairs Jyrki Katainen as Special Adviser for the EU-Arctic relations. The role is a position of trust for a period of six months, and Jyrki Katainen will carry on with his duties at Nordea as before.
The tasks of the Special Adviser include investigating how the EU could reinforce security in the Arctic and the countries within the region as well as strengthen the region’s economy. The Special Representative will also participate in updating the EU Arctic Policy. The role will also comprise working closely with the governments and other relevant stakeholders across the Arctic region and the EU.
“Reinforcing security in Europe, including the Arctic region, is currently a very important theme for governments as well as for businesses and their customers. It is encouraging that the EU is looking for new ways to strengthen security and promote sustainable development in the Arctic. This position of trust is naturally a great honour and I look forward to taking on the task,” says Jyrki Katainen.
Jyrki Katainen will start in the role immediately. It is a fixed-term position of trust for a period of six months.
Jyrki Katainen has been the Head of Group Public & Regulatory Affairs at Nordea since October 2023.
