Markets LC&I
These three interns spend their summer climbing a steep learning curve. Meet Mark, Vivian and Emil who are enjoying every bit of their internship at the trading floor in Copenhagen - in the company of warm and welcoming Markets colleagues and like-minded fellow interns, eager to learn, grow and have fun.
That’s how the interns describe their summer with us, while highlighting a strong learning culture, making it a very motivating environment to be part of.
Check out the blog by Emil, Vivian and Mark who come from different backgrounds, studying business economics, financial engineering and mathematical modelling and computation, respectively.
Mark Andrawes (22) – intern in Market Risk Access Channels
I’m currently pursuing an MSc in Mathematical Modelling and Computation at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

Great learning experience
I’m working with the Market Risk Access Channels team, with a focus on building and improving tools that help the bank control and monitor market risk. During my first weeks of the internship, I’ve gotten to know my team and what they do. I’ve been invited to a number of meetings where the team has introduced me to the existing systems, explained the key concepts within market risk, and taught me the general lingo. It’s been a great learning experience, and everyone has been very helpful in getting me up to speed.
I’ve also enjoyed getting to know the other interns. We started off with an introductory breakfast for all the interns, where we got to meet each other and hear about the different teams we’re working with. Since then, us interns have met up regularly for some nice lunches and gone out for various social after-work activities arranged for us.

Surprisingly open and warm
One of the things that has surprised me during my first weeks here, has been how open and warm the people on the trading floor are. From the outside, it’s easy to assume that the high-pressure environment would make people too busy to answer questions, but everyone is always happy to share knowledge and help out, which has made the learning process more enjoyable.
Vivian Lu (24) – intern in Market Analytics & Execution
I’m from Sweden and currently studying Industrial Engineering and Management at Lund University. It’s a business-oriented program, where I’ve taken the math-intensive track, specialising in Mathematical Modeling and Financial Engineering. I just returned from an exchange semester at NUS in Singapore.

Challenging but exciting
I’m with the Market Analytics & Execution team. I will be working from a deeply technical standpoint, in close collaborating with trading and sales to build custom solutions, e.g., trading platform components or advanced analytics tools, combining tech and business in a very cool way.
A few weeks into the internship, I have already been given a high-impact project by the Credit desk in Stockholm, which is to develop a fixed income analytics tool in Python. Part of this involves working with Bloomberg’s BQuant platform, which has been a great learning experience. It’s a big challenge, but also a very exciting one, with a lot of support from the traders involved.

Motivating and fun environment
Among other highlights, is getting to know the other interns. We’re a fun and driven group, and I’m looking forward to many more after-works together.
During my time here, I’ve gained a lot of respect for the high level of professionalism and the strong focus on compliance and client protection. It’s clear how seriously Nordea takes its responsibility within the financial ecosystem.
Also, the trading floor is a lot of fun. It’s collaborative, knowledge-driven, and full of people eager to help. There’s a strong culture of learning, which makes it a very motivating environment to be part of.
Emil Rosendal Madsen (25) – intern in Trading Capital
I am about to start the 2nd year of my master’s in Business Administration and Mathematical Business Economics at CBS, where I also did my bachelor’s in the same field.

Happy to help
I’m sitting on the Trading Capital desk, which analyses and optimises capital consumption and profitability. My work involves helping doing analyses on upcoming regulatory changes to capital requirements, automating some tasks in Python, and lastly I assist by cleaning up in an internal tool. All the tasks I will be doing not only brings value to the Trading Capital desk, it is also helps me develop skills for my future career.
The first weeks here at the trading floor have been fun. I have met a lot of people, and everyone have been so helpful and welcoming. There have been many things to learn by reading, listening and doing, and I have had a lot of questions which everyone have been more than helpful to answer – also during the various presentations I’ve been given. I have met with the Head of Markets ESG Risk who gave me an introduction to some of the regulatory changes I will be looking into, and also been introduced to xVA trading by a colleague at the neighbouring desk.
Beneficial learnings and social networking
One thing that surprised me is just how well Nordea is taking care of us interns. The tasks we get are well thought through to also be educational and beneficial to us. We also get to network with each other a lot, and we get to go out and do social activities together after work. Moreover, we get weekly breakfast followed up with presentations on various business areas. I signed up for the internship to learn a lot – and after two weeks, I can already confirm that I am learning a lot, and having fun too.
