Yet another win for us in the Swedish pension system

The Swedish Fund Selection Agency, FTN, has made an award decision in the third round of the procurement for the premium pension fund platform. We entered the procurement with Nordea Nordic Fund and Nordea Nordic Small Cap Fund and both were winners in their respective categories.

On the 19 February the Swedish Fund Selection Agency announced its decision on the procurement of the actively managed fund category Nordic equity funds. A total of just over SEK 17.7 billion was invested in the funds in the category as of 31 December 2024, of which SEK 9 billion was in funds focusing on small companies.

Approximately 135,000 pension savers have holdings in the funds affected by the procurement. In connection with this procurement, it was decided that the Nordic equity funds category should be replaced by the two new categories Nordic large and mid-cap companies and Nordic small-cap companies.

Nordea entered the procurement with one fund for each of the categories, with the funds Nordea Nordic Fund and Nordea Nordic Small Cap respectively. And today we can proudly conclude that both funds were selected.

“Winning this procurement means a lot to us and to our customers, especially in the important Swedish market. It shows the high quality of our funds and of our fund management”, says Ellinor Nordgren, Head of Nordea Funds, Swedish branch.

Tough selection process

The procurement process performed by the Swedish Fund Selection Agency is extensive. The agency’s goal is to ensure quality and stability of the system. In the evaluation both fund, fund company and surrounding administration are assessed based on criteria such as investment process, manager resources, diversity and corporate culture.

Nils Bolmstrand, Head of Nordea Asset Management.

Investment performance and risk control are also key, as well as pricing. By law, the funds procured must be suitable, controllable, sustainable, cost-efficient and of high quality.

“Many people within the Nordea Asset Management value chain has been a part of this procurement. It is a big win for all of us and I am very proud of what our organisation can achieve by working cross functions and cross borders,” says Nils Bolmstrand, Head of Nordea Asset Management.

I am proud and happy that Nordea Nordic Small Cap is one of the winners in this procurement and that the fund will continue to be available for all pension savers on the platform.
