Meet Mark

Software developer, tech guru and furniture maker

“Before Nordea, I worked for pure tech companies. My journey here began as a mobile developer, continued to host technical talks, then to harmonising design patterns across our digital platforms. Now, I focus on creating new digital services and innovating new ways to serve our customers’ needs“

How would you describe learning in Nordea?

There’s always something new to learn about how banking technology works. I get to deepen my skills in a technical field to become more specialised, but I am also encouraged to learn other tools, platforms and skillsets. I think this is very refreshing. The colleagues I work with have always been an amazing influence and valuable source of knowledge.

What passion led you to the role you are in today?

My passion has always been technology and how it can help augment our lives. I believe that the time has come for banking to undergo the same change as other industries and that Nordea has the capacity to do it. Change is not always easy, and I want to share with others what we do and why. I like being surrounded by like-minded people who are focused and committed to working on the task at hand.

Can you share something more about you?

I love coffee and woodworking. I like to try to make my own furniture!

“After my finance studies, I joined Nordea’s customer service and then became sales support. For many years, I helped our customers with different daily banking services. My learning journey continued to analysing credits and now I have a role as Relationship Manager for corporates.”

What are you passionate about?

Working close to and with the customer. That’s how I started and that’s what I do now – 12 years later – in my current role as Relationship Manager.  When I get the feedback from customers that I have helped them grow and develop their business, I feel very energised.

What has helped you learn and grow?

I've had faith in myself and I've dared to try something new, for example when making the shift from sales support to Credit Analyst.  Throughout the years, I've learned the most by working together with skilled colleagues all around Nordea and I've always had supportive leaders who believed in me.

Can you share something more about you?

I’m a person who like trying to find smart ways to make things better and quicker. At home, I have for example become an expert at frying pancakes and folding laundry at the same time!

“After my first job as a trainee, I became a financial advisor for household customers.  After five years, I wanted to learn something new and started to work as an Investment Chief in Training and Support. My journey continued in Social Media business development, and now I have a role as Scrum Master.”

What passion led you to the role you are in today?

It might sound like a cliché, but it’s really the passion for new opportunities and customers. Today – in my role as Scrum Master – I help teams to achieve more, quicker and better results for our customers.

How would you describe learning in Nordea?

I’ve always been open about what drives and motivates me – and that has brought me closer to my passions. I’ve also had managers who’ve seen potential, supported and coached me. If you can dream it, you can do it. Nordea is filled with opportunities and it is up to you to make use of them.

What do people not know about you?

I love to help and engage in social responsibility programmes. I support and coach a cycling team that raises money for children with diseases.

“My journey started as assistant, continued to HR and then to our Call Centre. When I was offered a Team Manager position, I understood that leadership was the area I wanted to develop in. A few years later I was heading the Internet Branch and Contact Centre in Poland and have been in different leadership positions ever since. Today, I’m responsible for sourcing activities related to bringing external consultants to support different Nordea projects and processes.”

What makes you thrive in your role?

The best – and most challenging at the same time – is the focus on building strong collaboration with our stakeholders across Nordea. I also experience that there’s a learning culture. Since I joined Nordea, I've been challenged, trusted and encouraged to keep my mind open.

Who are you as a leader?

I feel at my best when I see that my team is developing and enjoying what they do – and when that results in satisfied stakeholders. Does everything always work well? No, there are some bumps on the road. I encourage my people to be themselves and not afraid of speaking up. I want to walk the talk and do my best to communicate well and give a purpose.

Can you share something more about you?

My family and friends are very important to me. And then I'm very passionate about travelling, especially Asia and South America. I love to experience the different cultures - and the cuisine is absolutely amazing!
