Check out this final blog by the talented students, summarising their experience from their eight weeks summer internship with us at the trading floor in Copenhagen – sharing their biggest learnings and highlights while elaborating on why they ‘highly recommend the summer internship’.

Intern in Market Risk Access Channels

Mark Andrawes

The internship has been a very positive experience. The very welcoming environment makes it easy to learn, as everyone shares knowledge generously. There is, of course, an adjusting period to get used to terminology and workflows, but once you get past that, you can really begin having a tangible impact and feel involved.

During the eight weeks, I have gained a much better understanding of how a bank like Nordea operates, and especially how risk is managed and monitored using technology. Some of the biggest highlights of the internship include having interactive discussions with the team over potential ideas, and getting valuable feedback on my work. The many fun social events that was arranged for us interns were also big highlights.

I definitely recommend this internship. You’re given space to explore what you find interesting and learn at your own pace, and help is always given when asked for. This is a great opportunity to experience what it’s like to work in a fast-paced bank with an inclusive and energetic culture.

Lorraine Zhang

I enjoyed very much my summer on the trading floor. The passing eight weeks have been really fulfilling, and it has definitely also been a very steep learning curve. I learnt a lot about my team’s projects and daily tasks, and have learnt more about the overall FX franchise.

The comprehensive process of aggregating theoretical and practical knowledge has been challenging but also a lot of fun. Everyday there has been something new to learn, and I woke up each morning looking forward to step onto the trading floor again. .

I highly recommend this internship. The colleagues are super supportive and smart, and the tasks are interesting and relevant to what I learnt from university. I also find it a great opportunity to know more about other teams on the floor, as everyone is happy to share what they are working on etc. There are also plenty social afterwork activities with great opportunities to make use of the nice Copenhagen summer with fellow interns and the team :).

William Gormsen

The internship exceeded my expectations. The opportunity to rotate between four Markets units gave me insight into each area, and how they interact and depend on each other. The learning curve has been steep which also made it so rewarding. Every single day I came to work, I left having learned something new.

The biggest learnings have been to truly understand what a bank like Nordea does in practice. The highlight has been working alongside incredibly talented and bright people who are not only passionate about their work, but also generous with their time and knowledge. The openness, kindness, and willingness to share insights have inspired me, and I hope the relationships I’ve built here will last well beyond these eight weeks.

I would without a doubt recommend this internship. I have learned more than expected, and certainly more than in any other professional setting I’ve been part of. If you have a genuine interest in financial markets, this is the right place to challenge yourself and be inspired.

The internship has been an amazing learning journey. I got to know the different functions in Markets and how people interact with the systems. Besides interacting with people across the trading floor, getting to know the other interns and hear about their fields of interest and ideas, also contributed to making this experience incredible.

Among the highlights of the internship, was to see people being open to ideate and test the current bank infrastructure with the thought of integrating AI tools.

I highly recommend this internship. It helped me get a perspective on what happens in the Front Office and the Middle Office of a bank. To know how business units develop tools that cater to a vast variety of audience, gives you a peek into how banks adapt to the changes in technology and trends in their own way. Last but not least, the social activities planned for us interns also made this summer super special.

Intern in Trading Capital

Emil Rosendal Madsen

Nordea has really made me feel welcomed, and I have truly enjoyed my summer here. I have learned a lot, met a lot of people, and developed some of my skills. I have been doing tasks that provide value for Nordea, and knowing I have been able to make an impact provides so much value to me as well.

Everyone at my team desk, and at the neighboring desks, were really nice and happy to share their knowledge and answer questions, which made the learning process all the more enjoyable. Furthermore, us interns were taken out to do social activities every week, and as a result of that we all became friends, which made the eight weeks even more pleasurable.

I recommend everyone who is considering a career in finance to apply for this internship. There is a big focus on making the eight weeks enjoyable for the interns – which was also successful.

Intern in Market Analytics & Execution

Vivian Lu

The internship has been a great mix of learning and fun, and very rewarding. It offered a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insights into financial markets while also contributing to meaningful projects. Beyond the work, there were many opportunities to connect with other interns and colleagues, both in the office and outside through social activities.

One of the main highlights has been to experience the trading floor first-hand and see how decisions are made in real time and how technology supports the business. I also got insight into the life of a credit trader, where information, models and intuition all play critical roles. Another major highlight was the people. Everyone was open and willing to answer questions, and many colleagues – including senior people – reached out and took time to share their knowledge.

I strongly recommend the internship. You work with cutting-edge technology and gain market knowledge, while also building connections with colleagues who are inspiring, knowledgeable, and supportive. The combination of professional growth, real responsibility, and unforgettable social experiences makes it an internship I would strongly recommend to anyone curious about finance, technology, or both.

If you have a technical or mathematical background like myself, this is an ideal environment to explore your interests in practice – whether that’s in coding, data, or markets.
