(NO #4) We have now reached week 5 and 6 in the internship program, and time flies by fast. We started the week by being assigned new projects. For the first time, we were all gathered at the trading floor, having projects at the FX and Risk Solutions desks. It’s been great.
So, what have we been doing! Well, Isabella and I (Erlend) have been working at the FX desk, where our initial assignment was to investigate the commodity risk of Norwegian industry – which was a wide-ranging task.
Thanks to the help of equity research and FX professionals, we were able to narrow the scope of the assignment and produce a report that highlighted the main commodities which different industries are exposed to. We also got the chance to spend two weeks at the FX desk, which was very interesting and a learning experience in itself.
Ella and I (Nanna) have been working on a project for Risk Solutions, where we have analysed the European Gas market, and made a scenario analysis for the coming two winter seasons. It has been exciting to learn more about the gas and energy market in Europe, especially with the ongoing geopolitical climate. The situation changes rapidly, and we woke up to information which we had to incorporate in our analysis every day. At the end of the project, we also got to present our findings at one of the morning meetings, attended by the various analysts, sales and trading people.
Alongside Erlend and Isabella, Sondre and Vegard had a combined project for Risk Solutions and FX, where they really got to test their coding and design skills. More specifically, they automated a model through VBA that generates a sales presentation for the FX clients. The model generates presentations with specific parameters which are case-specific. They also learned how the FX desk is operated and had the opportunity to execute some smaller deals under the supervision of FX Sales Manager, Martin.
As every week, we played floor ball on Tuesday. And we are really starting to master the game – in our own opinion! On Thursday, we also attended the weekly summer academy. This time it was a combined presentation by Fixed Income and Debt Capital Markets, where they took us through the entire value chain of bonds in Nordea. Insightful and interesting are keywords we could agree upon after the academy. After the presentation we gathered for some social input and discussions over some drinks 😊.
