In this third blog in our Women’s Finance Insight Programme (WFIP) series 2026, we’re pleased to introduce you to Mia, Leila and Sofie. They are among the talents, that have attended our afternoon sessions during the spring to gain insight into the world of finance and its wide range of career opportunities within core finance areas like Markets and Investment Banking & Equities.

Mia is pursuing a Master Degree at Copenhagen Business School in General Management and Analytics.

Mia Schmidt-Jørgensen (Denmark)

What has been your greatest learning?

To understand how the different departments operate. The Women’s Finance Insight Programme also gave me valuable insight into how the theoretical frameworks from my studies are applied in real-world financial settings.

Did the programme meet your expectations?

It exceeded my expectations. I was particularly impressed by the level of exposure to Nordea professionals joining us in each session, across seniority levels, from junior profiles to heads of departments. This gave a unique and nuanced understanding of how each function operates and creates value in practice. Another aspect was the case work we had in every session, which we later presented to each other – which felt slightly overwhelming at first, but it proved to be extremely valuable, as it allowed us to apply what we learned in practice.

What's your advice to students considering to apply to WFIP?

If you have even a slight interest in the markets and investment banking & equities areas, I strongly encourage you to apply. It surprised me that some of the areas I initially had little interest in turned out to be the most exciting. Compared to typical one-off company events, this tailored programme offers great opportunities to gain in-depth exposure to multiple departments, while also allowing for meaningful interaction, questions, and networking with Nordea professionals. In addition, you go through all the sessions with the same group, which creates a strong sense of community and a great opportunity to build relationships with other participants.

Could you see yourself working in finance, and at Nordea?

Yes, without a doubt. I had never considered trading as something for me, but visiting Nordea’s trading floor and participating in the trading simulation game made a strong impression on me. The programme really broadened my perspective on where I could see myself working within finance.

Leila is studying a Bachelor in Cognitive Science at University of Bergen.

What has been your greatest learning?

It has been gaining a deeper understanding of the role Nordea plays in a broader global context. The programme highlighted how financial data and quantitative analysis can provide meaningful insights into economic developments and global trends.

Did the programme meet your expectations?

It exceeded my expectations. With no formal background in finance, I initially anticipated that it might be challenging to keep up with the material. However, the learning environment was highly supportive, and complex topics were communicated in a clear, structured, and engaging manner, which made the content both accessible and thought-provoking.

What advice would you give students considering applying to our WFIP?

My advice would be to apply with curiosity and an open mind. The programme is designed to encourage an inclusive learning environment where participants from diverse backgrounds can contribute and engage. The experience became particularly rewarding when the participants asked questions and interacted in discussions.

Could you see yourself working at Nordea – in finance?

Yes, I could see myself working at Nordea. The intersection between artificial intelligence, human cognition, and finance is likely to become increasingly important in the years ahead, particularly given the rapid technological and economic transformations occurring globally. Nordea seems like an ideal environment for exploring how financial institutions can adapt to and actively shape these developments.

Sofie is pursuing a Master in Financial Mathematics at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

Sofie Ramsten (Sweden)

One of the final sessions focused on equities and provided a practical and engaging insight into how equity-related work is carried out in practice, covering everything from analysis to client interaction. As in previous sessions, we had the opportunity to ask all sorts of questions, and worked on a case study, which is the best way to gain insight into the work.

We were also introduced to the chief economist Annika Winsth, who gave a motivating presentation about her career and discussed the current global economic landscape.

The closing dinner that followed was an excellent opportunity to reflect on everything we had learned throughout the programme, while also strengthening the relationships we had built during that time.

What has been your greatest learning?

To gain insight into the different departments and all the various career paths available in the bank. The experience has helped me to better understand how different teams and departments collaborate to create value for their clients. It also allowed me to see where I might fit in and understand what types of tasks I find most engaging – insights, which I didn’t expect to achieve from the programme.

Did the programme meet your expectations?

Yes, it exceeded my expectations in every way. Each session was carefully planned, and offered not only technical insights, but also valuable career advice and personal stories from inspiring professionals at Nordea. This made the finance industry feel both more accessible and more tangible.

What's your advice to students who consider applying to WFIP?

My advice is to take the opportunity and apply. The programme provides a unique overview of Nordea’s different business areas and gives you the opportunity to explore career paths in finance you didn't know existed. In addition, you get the chance to build meaningful connections and meet inspiring people that you might encounter again in your future career.

Could you see yourself working in finance - at Nordea?

Absolutely. The combination of professionalism, a clear purpose, and an inclusive and supportive culture has made a strong impression on me. The program has further strengthened my motivation to pursue a career in finance, and Nordea is a workplace where I could see myself continue developing.
