Finding a home in Finland
 

Hi, I’m Yoselin, Senior Product Owner at Nordea.  
 

I moved to Finland to complete the second year of my master’s degree at Aalto University. During my studies, I started an internship that eventually opened the door to both a career and a life here together with my husband.  
 

Although Finland is now the place I call home, it wasn’t the first country where I lived. Originally from Mexico, I’ve also lived in Spain, the United States, and Sweden. Each place taught me something different, but Finland quickly became the place where I really felt at home. 
 

“The people are what make Finland special to me. I’ve built meaningful friendships here, both at Nordea and outside of work, and many of them started in the most unexpected ways,” says Yoselin. 
 

Some friendships with Finns have started by sharing a table with a stranger because the restaurant was full at lunchtime, or when my dog decided to greet someone during a walk. Those chance encounters have turned into lasting friendships. 
 

I also value the work-life balance and sense of trust that exists both in the workplace and across society. It creates an environment where people can grow professionally while still having a fulfilling life outside of work.

From software engineer to product owner
 

I joined Nordea in January 2023 as a software engineer in a team developing digital banking applications for customer support and communications. 
 

One of the biggest milestones in my journey came when I transitioned into a Senior Product Owner role. Today, I work closely with engineers, business stakeholders, and other teams to ensure we are building solutions that support customer needs and Nordea’s strategy. My software engineering background helps me bridge the gap between business and technology so that I can easily translate complex requirements into actionable work for the team. 
 

Nordea and my colleagues have given me the trust, support, and opportunities to grow. Along the way, I have strengthened my skills in communication, stakeholder management, product development, and leadership. 
 

One of the things I love most about my work is that no two days are ever the same. One day, I’m discussing key topics with the CFO, external vendors, and business stakeholders. 
 

The next day, I could be prioritizing new feature requests, facilitating architectural discussions with our architects, collaborating closely with designers and developers, and coordinating dependencies across multiple engineering teams to turn ideas into reality. 
 

On other days, my focus shifts to driving AI adoption, mentoring new colleagues, and encouraging new ways of working that help teams innovate, grow, and deliver greater value. 
 

This variety keeps me energized because it challenges me to continuously learn, adapt, and connect with people from different backgrounds and disciplines. 

Learning from different perspectives 
 

One of the things I enjoy most about working at Nordea is the international environment. 
 

I have worked with talented colleagues from Finland and around the world. At one point, my team consisted of 15 people representing 11 different nationalities. 
 

Working with people who bring different experiences and perspectives creates a great environment for learning and collaboration. It challenges us to think differently, solve problems from new angles, and build better solutions together. That diversity is one of the reasons I have chosen to build my career at Nordea.
