Tag along as Sandra, Ilmar and Arttu talk about their different jobs and summer projects, and get a feel for the social aspects of the FFP life, both at the office and after work, with various social events, sports activities and get-togethers with fellow FFPs and colleagues.

First a brief introduction of the three talented students.

Sandra Karsten, FX Sales

I graduated from Hofstra University (New York, USA) as a Bachelor in Business Administration with a Major in Accounting. I am soon to graduate from the Master’s Degree Programme in Banking and International Finance at University of Jyväskylä.

Before joining Nordea’s Future Finance Professional (FFP) programme, I’ve played professional basketball, and worked as a salesperson, and in an accounts receivable team.

My FFP internship at Nordea Markets in FX Sales Finland is highly educational and fun. The learning curve is steep, but luckily you’re surrounded by colleagues who are ready to help when facing challenging situations.

As a FFP, I have been trusted with a lot of responsibility, from executing trades to leading customer meetings. In other words, you get to jump right into the world of Foreign Exchange, and truly utilize your FX knowledge to the best of your abilities.

One of the things I enjoy the most about the traineeship, is that there is never two days alike on the trading floor. One of the highlights is that you’ll get to follow the market very closely and see how macroeconomic news impact the FX market.

Additionally, the learning never ends end - each day you learn something new, supporting the knowledge growth journey that the FFP programme offers.

Arttu Hannila and Ilmari Tokola.

We are both FFPs in the Business Control Solutions team, which is part of the Management Oversight business (MO) unit in Large Corporates & Institutions (LC&I). LC&I MO ensures that risks and emerging risks are appropriately identified, understood and managed across LC&I. LC&I MO assesses regulatory changes and their practical implications in LC&I, creates internal instructions and rules, and helps business implement them.

In Business Control Solutions, we advise and support our stakeholders with Knowledge & Competence and record keeping requirements. Additionally, our responsibility is to support LC&I to reach targets by having an overview of LC&I training completions. We also keep an oversight of the LC&I control and documentation environments as well as develop tools that provide overviews to our stakeholders and support them in their activities.

Ilmari Tokola, Business Control Solutions

I am a MSc student at Tampere University majoring in Industrial Engineering and Management, with minors in finance and data technologies. I started my internship in January, which has allowed me to get familiar with my tasks and responsibilities. After the summer, I will start my master's studies with an exchange period in Hong Kong.

My work focuses on process development and automation. I support different initiatives by developing process documentation and handling recurring tasks across my team’s different areas of responsibility. I have also worked on process modeling to support the development of standardized ways of working. This summer, I’ll also be involved in a dashboard project for the Large Corporates and Institutions business unit.

Arttu Hannila, Business Control Solutions

I'm a MSc student at University of Helsinki currently doing a major in Data Science and minors in Finance and Statistics. I started my internship at Nordea this January in the Business Control Solutions team. The opportunity to work at Nordea opened up during my exchange studies in Singapore wherefrom I applied and luckily got the position. I have already learned a lot and truly enjoy my time at Nordea, and look forward to make the most of the experience!

My work is mainly focused on automation and process development. I’m currently working on a few projects relating to automating processes for easier and faster decision making and visualizing data to help better spread information inside the organization. As a part of our FFP projects I’ll also be working on a model helping to predict dividend cuts.

Social life as FFPs - lots of fun

One of the nicest ways to network and get to know others during the spring has been through shared lunches with different people. Additionally, FFP events have also provided great opportunities to get to know our colleagues. A special highlight has been our golf rounds together with other FFPs. Even though our swings are still work in progress, we have had lots of fun along the way.

The best part is that summer is just getting started. We still have a lot to look forward to, such as the FPP summer projects we are currently working on and the many upcoming FFP, and Nordea events we have the possibility to join. We are also planning to do lots of different sports throughout the summer, as well as hold 'after-works' together with our colleagues.
