“I’m really glad I applied” – meet Santtu, who gets a kick out of learning from the best
(FFP #4) What’s it like to work on a trading floor? How to analyse and determine a stock price - what's with futures and trade triggers? That’s a few of many queries that one of our talented interns, Santtu, aspired to explore and learn about when joining our Future Finance Professional programme. Four months into the internship, he’s found answers through hands-on experience, surrounded by “the best analysts”.
Read Santtu’s blog – in our FFP 2024 series – and hear about his work and learnings as intern in Equity Research in Investment Banking & Equities, and see why he’s “really glad he applied”.
I am a masters student majoring in finance at Aalto University School of Business. This fall I am planning to start working on my master’s thesis and I am aiming to graduate by summer 2025.
Before joining Nordea, I had work experience from the real estate private equity, healthcare and insurance sectors. I applied for the FFP programme to learn about banking and see what working on a trading floor is really about. Now, after the first four months here, I am really glad I applied.
As an FFP at Equity Research, one of my main responsibilities is writing the morning report every morning before the Finnish stock market opens. The task includes gathering market data and writing company specific texts. The task has given me a broad understanding and knowledge on Finnish listed companies together with the larger picture of stock markets.

I have also had the opportunity to do peer analysis and a couple of larger projects. For example, I have done a broader analysis and market research about the energy and telecom sectors and therefore analysed the stock performance and the future of Finnish listed companies. These interesting projects have given me a deep dive into the many factors behind a stock price.
During the highly intensive earnings season, my various tasks also include updating financial models, drafting earnings comments and attending company earnings presentations.
One of the best parts in being an FFP in Equity Research team is that you are surrounded by the best analysts in the field who share their knowledge and trust you with a lot of responsibility. I also enjoy having discussions with colleagues from other teams at the trading floor during lunches and coffee breaks.
I really enjoy my internship, and I'm glad I applied.
