Hello, I’m Axel Falck and I work in Financial and Risk Tools & Data as an Assistant Analyst.
Having now passed the halfway mark of the Future Finance Professional (FFP) programme, I can confidently say that it has been my most rewarding, interesting and challenging internship of my career so far. My work combines elements of market risk, counterparty credit risk, data analytics and software development, contributing to the development of reporting solutions and tools used by stakeholders across the bank.
Over the past months I have worked on a tool that breaks down the risk exposure amount across different counterparties, desks and risk dimensions. Working on this project has given me insight into how risk exposures from trading activities are measured, monitored and reported in the bank. Seeing how trade-level financial data is transformed into meaningful reporting that supports decision-making has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the project.
Another project has involved automating a previously manual Key Risk Indicator reporting process. Through this work, I have gained experience in Python development and building solutions that improve the efficiency and reliability of risk reporting.
Besides being an FFP intern at Nordea, I’m also a student of Industrial Engineering and Management at Aalto University. Quantitative finance and computer science courses have given me a solid foundation for this role. Applying that knowledge in practice using real data has been particularly exciting. Furthermore, working in an international team with members in the Nordics and Poland has also been a valuable learning experience, allowing me to collaborate and learn from experienced professionals every day.
Finally, one of the highlights of this programme has been the Nordea community. Whether it is having lunch with co-workers, collaborating across borders, going together to the gym after work or attending FFP events with the other interns, I have had countless opportunities to meet people from different teams across the bank and build connections beyond my day-to-day work.
To sum it up, an FFP internship at Nordea is a combination of interesting work, continuous learning and amazing colleagues. What more could one wish for from an internship?
