STEM students came, they saw, they enquired – and got keen on applying

“I was positively surprised about the many career opportunities”. “I could definitely see myself working here”. “I will for sure apply for a graduate position at Markets”. That’s some of the impressions we got from a group of LINC STEM students who visited us at Nordea Markets to hear about career opportunities and our unique Graduate programme – which you can apply for now.

They came, they saw, they enquired. By the looks of their feedback, the 19 LINC STEM students from Lund University liked what they saw and learned during their on-sight Nordea Markets tour at our Metro office in Copenhagen.

“Thank you for a great event. I will definitely apply for a graduate position with Nordea Markets”.  That’s one of the recurring comments, we received from the LINC STEM students after their visit to Nordea Markets. We’ll come back to more of the feedback – first a bit about the event and LINC STEM.

Lund University Finance Society, is also known as LINC, and STEM covers science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. LINC STEM seeks to bridge the gap between STEM students and finance, providing members with the knowledge on how to combine finance with coding and technical abilities.

As such, the group of LINC STEM talents had come to the right place, since we offer a wide range of career opportunities, also matching STEM aptitudes. Since we’re always on the look-out for talents and interested in hearing their thoughts, career desires and like to help fill in the blanks about a career in finance, we were pleased and excited to invite them to a two hours’ session.

The event involved speed introductions from eight Markets people; managers, analysts, graduates and students covering Trading, e-Trading, Desk Quants, among others.

The various presentations spurred many good questions, quizzes and discussions, topped with a lush lunch and a round tour, with more informal talks and networking.

A Wow moment

What a great afternoon – for us, and happily, also for the STEM students who chose to visit Nordea Markets during one of their Finance Tours.

“I thought it was a really good event with the opportunity to meet a lot of different people in different departments. Seeing the trading floor was for sure a Wow moment,” says Alisa Penkina

The feedback we received from the talents was Wow! Here is a collection of ‘sound bites’ from the LINC STEM students:

“I was surprised by how many different career opportunities there are at Nordea Markets, and that’s it’s not all about economist positions but rather opportunities as problem solver and programmer. I would definitely apply for a graduate position at Nordea Markets. I think it’s the perfect place and way to get a foot into the financial industry, especially as you get the opportunity to rotate between different positions,” Alisa comments.

Pascal Halabi: “I was also happy to see that Nordea Markets goes the extra mile by ensuring the well-being of its employees. I could definitely see myself working at Nordea Markets".

The visit genuinely impressed me, especially the nice working environment and welcoming culture were things that stood out.
- Pascal Halabi

Tobias Ohlsson-Bååth: “I found the small presentations very interesting, and I really enjoyed the tour around the trading floor – it was fun to see it and all the activity going on. The tour also gave a perfect opportunity to ask questions to the Markets people in a casual way, and I was positively surprised by how really nice and accommodating the Markets people are”.

I could definitely see myself working at Nordea Markets. - Tobias Ohlsson-Bååth

Petra Andsberg: “I really appreciated the authenticity of the event and the people we met. I’m still in the process of finding out what I am most interested in, but I can definitely see myself at Nordea”.

Gustaf Mild: “Some of the things that surprised me the most was how well structured the Markets’ graduate programme is, and also the feeling of feeling so welcome there”.

I will definitely apply to the upcoming Markets Graduate programme with the hope of starting in February 2023. - Gustaf Mild

Michal Nowak, Head of LINC STEM: “It was a very good tour. All Nordea representatives were extremely courteous, approachable and knowledgeable. I could see myself working here, absolutely”.

The fact that you have extensive possibilities for someone with my background, and you occupy the frontier of the field, makes you an attractive employer. - Michal Novak

It’s a win-win

The students met various Markets people with different backgrounds, age groups, nationalities, and learned about their diverse career paths, and their respective business areas in Markets; Morten Rasmussen (Head of Markets Trading), Andrei Suciu (e-Trading Rates Business Analyst), Christoffer Brevadt (student in e-Trading FX Business Analyst), Andre Gallardo and Ali Aljsine (e-Trading Rates Data & Insights Analyst), Simon Larsen (Graduate at Trading Office), Annalena Heck (analyst in e-Trading Business Support - photo below) and Kirsten Knudsen (Head of Desk Quants).

“We are always happy and excited to open our doors for talents and students for informal talks. It gives us a great opportunity to show and tell what we do and who we are – and vice versa. It’s a win-win. For us it’s also a kick – at least for me – it’s an energy booster to host and attend events like this where we meet talents – and potential new colleagues – curious to hear about our business, career opportunities. It’s very inspiring – I learn something new every time,” says Morten Rasmussen, Head of Markets Trading and sponsor of the event.

Gladly, the LINC STEM group learned something new, too – among others: They got to realise just how wide a range of career opportunities we offer, and that our unique Graduate programme gives the opportunity to rotate between units. News which turned out to be positive surprises to our visitors – who by the end of the day apparently, and happily, seemed keen on joining us and our Graduate programme. We hope to hear from you - and other talents.

It could be you!
