As a platinum sponsor of the upcoming Treasury 360° Nordic conference, Nordea is set to host three sessions that tackle some of the key challenges facing corporate treasurers today. The premier Nordic treasury event brings together finance professionals in Göteborg, Sweden, for a full day of insights, networking and practical knowledge sharing.

Strategic M&A financing takes centre stage

Henrik Immelborn, Managing Director at Nordea, will join Peter Kreutzfeldt, Head of Group Treasury and Insurance at Lundbeck, for a fireside chat exploring the complexities of modern treasury leadership. The session, "Denmark taking over. The Lundbeck case of ambitious growth and what it requires of funding and treasury operations," will put a lens on high-stakes M&A financing.

"We explore why Danish pharma has become a magnet for M&A, what 'financing deal certainty' actually means in practice, and how to balance speed, flexibility and terms when competing for assets," explains Immelborn. "If you care about treasury as a strategic weapon, M&A financing under pressure, and how a leading corporate treasury views the next 18–24 months, this is a conversation you won't want to miss."

The discussion will examine how Lundbeck’s ambitious growth trajectory, including major acquisitions such as Longboard Pharmaceuticals in 2024, demands sophisticated treasury operations that can deliver both immediate solutions and long-term strategic planning.

FX risk management in the spotlight

Johan Trocmé from Nordea will moderate a panel discussion addressing a significant shift in corporate treasury priorities.

“After the global financial crisis of 2008, the focus of blue chip treasuries shifted from strategic hedging to efficiency and process optimisation," notes Trocmé. "In today's uncertain and volatile environment, FX risks have moved to the top of corporate agendas.”

The panel, featuring representatives from Volvo Cars, Volvo Treasury, Stockholm Exergi and Lantmännen, will explore whether strategic hedging is making a comeback.

"The combination of a sharply weakening US dollar and a strengthened Swedish krona has caused eye-catching economic pain for many Swedish corporates in the past 12 months," Trocmé explains.

The discussion will examine whether forecast-based and balance sheet-based hedging strategies are returning by necessity, and how boards and management are viewing FX risk differently in today’s volatile environment.
