Women in Finance – buzzing ESG and FFP talks, join in

27-10-2022 14:32

Diversity and sustainability are hot topics. We have several related initiatives and events ongoing in Markets LC&I. Most recently we teamed up with Women’s Career Network and hosted a live event for female students for inspirational talks about ESG, career opportunities and our FFP programme. Check it out – don’t hesitate to join in.

As a leading Nordic bank within the ESG space and with focus on improving diversity and gender balance, we’re keen on engaging in related events and partnerships to support and drive change, promoting sustainability and encouraging more women to join the financial industry – as at this recent event.

In October, Nordea Markets teamed up with the Women’s Career Network (WCN) and hosted a live event at Nordea Campus (HQ of Nordea, Helsinki). Upon request from the students expressing a high interest in sustainability and wanting to better understand what Nordea does to help customers with the sustainable transition, the theme for the event was “Sustainable Finance” – with some creative add-on.

About 30 students and Nordea representatives enjoyed an evening with sustainable and paint&party event. We kicked-off the event at the heart of the Markets operation; the Trading Floor – as the students were eager to see and experience where they might be working if they decide to join our tailored Future Finance Professional (FFP) programme. (At the end of the day, we were happy to learn that quite a few of the female visitors were rather interested in applying for the FFP programme 2023 (deadline is 30th October 2022)).

The tour continued to Nordea Campus’ Event Lounge, where Pauliina Luukkonen, Head of Portfolio Analysis, did a presentation on Sustainable Finance, and among the wide ranged topic touched upon:

  • How the sustainability aspect of funds has risen on the same level to income/risk analysis
  • What are the different ways to approach sustainability in investing
  • How to rate the “ESG-grade” of a customer’s portfolio
  • How and why many institutional investors have Carbon neutral investment portfolio on the agenda

The presentation invited to many questions from the students - you can read more about Sustainability at Nordea here. The presentation inspired to some good discussions afterwards during a sustainability themed painting session hosted by Paint & Party. The informally artistic invited the students and attending Nordea people to bring out their creative side, have fun and nice chats about sustainability measures, career options and more.

Besides some interesting talks about sustainability, career paths, the FFP programme, the two hours’ painting session also resulted in some pretty nice and unique paintings to bring home.

The students were, among others, interested in learning what kind of sustainability related positions there are at Nordea (the short answer is ‘quite a few’). The visitors also used the opportunity to ask the attending Nordea people about their career paths and work experiences.

“The students also wanted to hear about  our FFP programme, and as many of us Nordea people attending the event are former FFPs we could tell all about the programme and give some tips and tricks for interviews and about applying,” tells Pauliina Kinos, Client Associate in Finland Strategic Coverage.

Pauliina was one of this year’s FFPs who stayed on after the FFP programme, and as such pretty capable and happy to answer the many questions about the FFP programme.

One repetitive question from the students was about the chances of continue working at Nordea after ending the FFP traineeship! To that, we can answer “the chances are fairly good”, so far – when considering this year’s list: Out of 19 FFPs 14 have continued at Nordea.

“Study backgrounds varies a lot here at Nordea. Besides finance studies, many people have studied economics, engineering, computer science, core IT, you name it – it’s very diversified. If I should give a piece of advice to talents interested in a career in finance, and in joining us, I wouldn’t focus much on my background – it’s more about your personality, your drive and motivation, and not just what courses you have had at university,” says Pauliina, adding:

“If you join our FFP programme – which I obviously, highly recommend 😉 – you will get responsibility from day one, and keep learning every day. The willingness and motivation to learn is what matters – and a nice personality. Just apply for the FFP programme - it's a great way to kick-start your career. It worked for me ;-).- it could be you”.

Apply to our FFP programme 2023 now - before 30th Oct. 2022.
