What is surprising about working in research team? How are the dynamics on the trading floor in Helsinki? What happens at the FFP events? Get answers in this FFP video.
After graduating from Aalto University School of Business with a major in economics, I decided to apply for the FFP programme last autumn. Before my internship at Nordea Markets, LC&I in Helsinki, I had gained experience as a financial journalist, which is why I landed in the Research and Risk Solutions team where writing skills have been in serious use.
I was positively surprised by the creativity and amount of my own analysis I got to provide – and also how much public presenting has been involved in my daily work. These are a few of the factors that have created the feeling of being a valued team member rather than “just” a summer trainee.
The programme itself has felt unique as it combines working with highly skilled professionals and having a great community of other young people. If you are interested in a career in finance, I’d say go for it and apply.
I am a freshly graduated M.Sc. in Finance from University of Vaasa. My summer as a FFP intern began in May, as for the most of us interns, and during these past six months, I’ve worked in the Derivatives Coverage team as an Assistant Sales Manager.
Working on the trading floor has been brilliant. While we work quite independently, there are broad learning opportunities when working with professionals from various areas. From the first day onwards you get the feeling that there are no dumb questions on the trading floor. And if you like to challenge yourself, there are always new things to learn.
While constantly broadening your knowledge within the job itself, the vibrant social life as FFPs has been a great balance. The versatile events planned by the FFP organisers, also known as Fun Managers, and the daily social life, have definitely been one of the highlights of the summer. While networking professionally – you can also make new friends.
If you are ready to kickstart your career in finance, I highly recommend applying for the FFP programme. Watch our video for a deep dive into the FFP life with us – and apply!
