Our effort to support the transition towards a low-carbon economy has been awarded the Terra Carta Seal.
The Terra Carta is the foundation for the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), which is a charter for businesses to move towards an ambitious and sustainable future. It recognises corporations that demonstrate their commitment to and momentum towards the creation of a climate- and nature-positive future.
The seal is awarded to corporations that drive innovation and leadership in their industry in relation to sustainability and have credible transition roadmaps in place for decarbonisation underpinned by standardised metrics.
“We’re proud and honoured to receive the Terra Carta Seal Award. This is a strong recognition of our efforts in taking a leading role on sustainability in the financial sector. It’s important to remember though, that our sustainability work is a long-term commitment and there is still much to be done,” says Anders Langworth, Head of Group Sustainability.
Nordea has made a commitment to become a bank with net zero emissions by 2050. To reach this goal, we have set a mid-term objective to reduce carbon emissions from our lending and investment portfolios by 40-50% by 2030. Based on our experience within active ownership, sustainable investments and financing, we can accelerate our customers' transition through our support and offerings.
Green loans are loans meant for sustainable, environmentally friendly purposes, such as reducing CO2 emissions, or purposes contributing to the green transition in society such as developing new environmentally friendly technology.
